The benefits of allowing your dog to attend dog daycare are astounding. Besides having fun, daycare has health benefits: exercise, socialization and a boost for the immune system. Pets stay fit, sleep better and suffer fewer symptoms of stress. LA LA LAND for our small guests, a doggy swimming pool and 3200 sf of dog friendly artificial grass outside play area with a 6 foot fence are waiting.
For young dogs, it teaches them invaluable social skills that will help them learn how to properly meet and interact with a variety of other dogs. It also helps puppies with their potty training. Hyperactive dogs are given a proper outlet for all of that energy, and dogs needing to shed a few pounds can do so by playing all day.
People love daycare because it gets them off the hook, or rather, the leash! After a long day of work or running errands, you don’t have to rush home for a long walk with a dog bursting with abundant energy. Instead you can pick up your pooch at Cay 9 Resort & Spa and go home to begin your evening with more pleasant pursuits.
If your dog is in daycare, you don’t have to worry about the risks of letting strangers into the house. Dogs do not accidentally scamper out the door and the maintenance person won’t get nipped or knocked over by an exuberant pet or one that feels like defending your home against invasion.
With daycare your furnishings and possessions are safer because the dog won’t be home chewing, digging or lifting its leg in your living room or bedroom. Daycare also assures you that neighbors won’t be driven to the brink of insanity by incessant barking.
Daycare is not for every dog. Older dogs may have trouble adjusting to the commotion caused by a sizeable group of dogs romping and playing in a large area; shy dogs may be overwhelmed by the crowd; and aggressive dogs have no place in a group setting. The staff at Cay 9 Resort & Spa is experienced in recognizing the signs of discomfort and temperament that may indicate your pet is not right for the daycare setting.
No but we keep the right to refuse dogs that seem unfit for our day care or boarding facility. We carefully evaluate each dog through our temperament assessment. We’re confident in the experience and ability of our staff to recognize potentially problematic behaviors in a dog regardless of the breed.
Most vets will ask owners if they plan to take their dog(s) to daycare or parks and plan vaccinations accordingly. If you pooch is mostly with you in your home, goes out to play and take the occasional leash walk, you probably will only get baseline vaccinations and DHLPP.
Intact dogs will be singled out and picked on by dominant male and female dogs. An intact female may release pheromones when coming into heat that would cause conflict. To keep our play calm and fun and provide a happy, health, non-competitive environment, we cannot accept intact animals over 6 months old.
This is how we determine if dog daycare is a good fit for your dog. A temperament assessment is an opportunity for our daycare staff and trainers to meet your dog and you. We’ll ask some questions about the dog’s history and behaviors that might or might not impact how well they do with other dogs. It’s also a way to introduce the dog to the daycare experience (being on the play lot. We can observe whether the dog shows any fear or anxiety or aggressive behaviors toward other dogs or staff. After our introduction and questions, we require that each dog stay for a minimum of 1 hour to experience time on the playlot to make sure they are comfortable in our environment without your presence. At this time clients are able to tour the entire property, ask any questions that may arise and meet some of the staff who will be caring for their dog.
If your dog passes the assessment, their will be a half day daycare charge only and you can pick up your dog at any time before closing. If your dog does not pass the assessment, there will be no charge at all.
This is definitely a possibility. It does not mean your dog is bad, untrainable or aggressive, it just means that dog day care is not the best fit for them at this time. However, Cay 9 Resort & Spa also offers various training classes that may help with any issues that arise during the assessment.
No, there is no additional charge for these services.
This is something that we encourage for our boarding program since a change in diet can result in an upset stomach or diarrhea, and sometimes both. However, if you forget your food, or just prefer your dog to be fed the house food a high quality brand that we sell in our retail shop, is available for $5 per day.
They are separated primarily by size and energy level. We have one area called LA LA LAND for small dogs up to 20 bs. The second area is for bigger dogs. We switch every hour from our inside areas to our outside area with swimming pool so both groups get equal playtime and don’t mingle.
Absolutely. This is a wonderful way to have your dog trained. Our dog trainer will work with your dog on basic training or specific issues while your dog is here for daycare. We will take your dog out of daycare several times during the day to work with them per your request. It is best to have multiple, shorter sessions throughout the day to practice/rehearse new behaviors. In between your dog will have the opportunity to play and/or relax.
We do our absolute best to ensure the safety and well-being of your pet, which is one of the reasons why we are so diligent in our temperament assessment screenings. Even after a dog is accepted to daycare, we may ask a dog to leave if they have behavioral problems. However, during rough play it is possible for dogs to get minor scratches or scrapes, just like kids on a playground. Our staff is highly skilled in monitoring dog behavior.
Unfortunately, accidents can happen. Our highest priority is the safety and well-being of your dog. Our staff members are experienced dog handlers. We always contact the owner about any illness or injury. We make every effort to transport your dog to your vet who will know your pet’s health history. If your vet is unavailable, we will take your dog to our vet who is 24 hour on call. The vet will then contact you with their assessment and report. Cay 9 Resort & Spa will not be responsible for any vet bills that may occur (please see terms & conditions).
